Zakynthos is the island's capital city, a city rich in history and tradition. The earthquake of 1953 destroyed many buildings and the city has been rebuilt from the beginning. Islanders lived for many years under the Venetian conquerors, so many buildings are built by Venetian architecture.
Solomos Museum national poet named Dionysus Solomos, who was born in Zakynthos and who wrote the national anthem of Greece. Solomos Museum and the church Agios Dionysus (Sf.Dionisios) are some of the places you must visit when you come to the island of Zakynthos.
On the seafront and in the town you will find many cafes and taverns serving local cuisine.
In the city you will find everything you need: supermarke-tourists, banks, tourist office, bus station, port and more.
