About Syros - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
The island of Syros, in Greece, is one of the Greek islands of the Aegean Sea and it belongs to the Cyclades islands group. The charm of Syros island is mainly due to the Venetian and Neoclassical architecture of the capital town, Ermoupolis. With picturesque spots and impressive buildings, Ermoupolis is a very interesting place to walk around. Equally beautiful is the village of Ano Syros, constructed on the slopes of a hill above Ermoupolis, with narrow streets and a square with great view to the sea. Around Syros island, there are relaxing beaches with organized coasts, many tourist facilities and restaurants. Worth a visit are the Churches of Agios Nikolaos and of the Resurrection of Christ in Ermoupolis, while the most impressive building is the Town Hall in the central square.
Most accommodations in Syros island are spread between the capital and the beaches on the southern side of the island. Ermoupolis, the capital town, has many convenient tourist facilities. A great number of restored Venetian houses, particularly in the Vaporia district, have been converted into boutique hotels with luxurious facilities. Galissas and Megas Gialos are two of the most popular beaches and offer good accommodation options for your Syros holidays, mostly small hotels and cozy studios right on the seaside.
Syros | Although Syros belongs to the Cyclades islands, its architecture is more Medieval than Cycladic. The capital of Syros island, Ermoupolis, distinguishes for the elegant Venetian mansions, the picturesque quarter of Vaporia, the large churches and the impressive
Neoclassical buildings, such as the Town Hall and Apollo Theatre in the central square
