The village itself consists of a lot of white, square little houses, huddled together in one huge, centrally-placed group. In amongst these residential homes are a myriad of tavernas, bars and take-away shops. The village square is a welcoming spot for both residents and visitors as it offers a shaded break from the scorching heat, thanks to the many trees that line the square. Another feature that attracts attention in this area is a decorated fountain, legacy of the Italians who occupied and rebuilt much of Rhodes after the German surrender in 1945. The fountain draws its water from natural springs in the region.
Despite its small size, Lardos is fairly well organised in that it is able to offer its residents and tourists all the necessary services and conveniences, such as supermarkets, a great variety of little shops, medical and dental surgeries, vehicles for hire and even an adequate news agency that sells national and international publications.
There are only a few places of accommodation in the village of Lardos itself, because only 2km away is Lardos Bay, which provides for all types of holiday accommodation.
The beach area of Lardos Bay is paved in course gravel, but it has gentle seas and some large and up-market hotels that naturally cater to the visitor’s every whim. This is “package-tour” region and needless to say, the shore is packed with all the usual amenities that complement the ones already provided for by the hotels, such as quaint little tavernas, up-market seafood restaurants, canteens, bars and other forms of entertainment, as well as the usual spread of retail shops.
