About Koroni - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Koroni its a lovely venetian port with a citadel; a relaxing place to stay with a waterfront lined by cafes, bars and restaurants, and a long sandy beach within walking distance. Narrow stone paved streets, many too small for cars, zigzag up the hill behind the harbour.
Everyone who comes to stay loves the the town, yet its only really busy during the month of August. This is partly because there are no package tour holidays here, Koroni has been a resort for a long time but mostly for Athenians.
Today independent tourists from across Europe visit, and there is a small but growing number of foreigners living in the area, but in the evenings there are more Greeks eating in the restaurants than tourists, and you can be assured of good traditional food and an authentic Greek atmosphere.
The Citadel contains several churches and a Monastery where several nuns still live. Like Methoni it has a long history of invasion and occupation by the Turks, Venetians and the Holy Roman empire. Today its a tranquil and pleasant place to visit and still the heart of Koroni religious life.
