Kavala is the second largest city in northern Greece and principal seaport of eastern Macedonia. Kavala is across the street and the northernmost island of Greece, Thassos. Access is easy from Kavala to Thessaloniki (Thessaloniki) by highway Egnatia Highway. The city was originally founded by settlers from Paros around the sixth century BC, who called it Neapolis (new town). Gold mines in the hills Pangaion made him prosperous.
