In the north of Evia, is the famous spa town of Edipsos. A city known for its thermal springs, which attracts visitors from all over Greece and from abroad.
It is said that Edipsos was the favorite place of the writer Plutarch, but also of the philosopher Aristotle.
The resort has been frequented by famous people such as actors Anthony Quinn, Sophia Loren, Marcello Mastroiani, Marlon Brando, Greta Garbo, Omar Sharif, opera singer Maria Callas and businessmen such as Aristotel Onassis.
The architecture of the city of the Belle Epoque period will take you directly into the middle of the last century.
Edipsos is a famous resort for spa treatment since ancient times. Here you will find 80 hot springs, rich in iron, sulfur, calcium, radon and magnesium, which appear on the surface at temperatures between 28-86 degrees Celsius. Some springs also appear on the coast where, over time, small basins have formed (in the form of a valve), in which you can sit (free) and let the heat of the water penetrate.
The therapeutic properties of these waters have been an inspiration for mythology. It is said that the Athenian goddess asked her brother, the master Hafaistos, to create hot springs in Aidipsos, Evia, so that her favorite hero and protege, Hercules, could relax after each of the 12 superhuman tasks he was subjected to. It is also said that in this story he put his tail and goddess Hera, who was the protector of the home, and demanded that these waters be warm in order to raise healthy children. Hera also advised Deucalion (the son of Prometheus) and his wife Pyrrha to bathe in the waters of Edipsou to have healthy children. This is how the Greek people were born, after the name of the couple's first offspring, Helena.
So, it is enough to dip once in the waters of the gods to revive your health.
Edipsos is also recognized for its tourist development: meet here villas, hotels, a promenade, a multitude of taverns, restaurants, bars and clubs. The resort has several narrow beaches, sand and gravel beaches. The entrance to the sea is smooth. At the exit of the resort there is also a beach with fine sand.
