Corinth is a Greek city on the Isthmus, the original isthmus, the narrow strait linking the Peloponnese to mainland Greece. Corinth is about 78 km west of Athens. Isthmus is now crossed by a canal. Corinth is the capital of Corinth prefecture. The city is surrounded by mountains Lechaio, Kalamaki, Loutraki and Geraneia.
In ancient Greece, Corinth was the most important city after Athens, was inhabited since the Stone Age. Back then he was one of the most important east-west trade centers and the cult of Aphrodite.
