Artemisio is located in the northern part of the Euboea. The place is known from ancient times for the Battle of Artemisium and also for the archaeological discoveries (sculptures of Poseidon or Zeus).
The Battle of Artemisium was represented by a series of naval confrontations during the second Persian invasion of ancient Greece. The battle took place at the same time with the much more famous land confrontation from the Thermopylae, in August or September 480 BC, near the coast of Evia and was fought between an alliance of police in ancient Greece (including Sparta, Athens, Corinth and others) and the Persian Empire of Xerxes I.
