The island capital, Chora (in translation "main village") is home to the famous Greek captains and owners, a remarkable combination of medieval and neoclassical styles in the architecture of the houses. Built in stages, with a large market full of trees, with narrow streets, impressive churches, museums, shops, cafes and restaurants - the city has a beauty that stands out among all others encountered in Greece. Sitting on throne over all these beauties, you can admire the French castle built on an island, connected to the main island by a stone bridge arched high in the XIIIth century.
You will enjoy here a very rich and varied flora: chestnut, walnut, oak, maple, weeping willow, poplar, mulberry, willow trees and, of course, olive. You can admire the fields of thyme and sage villages connected by paved paths and Faneromeni Messaria. All fields are part of an old castle for more than ten centuries, located at 600 meters altitude. If you're here, do not miss a visit to the monasteries Zoodochos Piyi of the Panayia BATS Tomarhiani of Korth.
Paleopolis is located 16 miles south west of Chora and was at one time the capital of the island of Andros, knowing an important development in late Roman times. Prehistoric settlement of Plaka, Zagora settlement dating from perioara geometric and fortified settlement of Neolithic times (4500 to 3.300 IH) having the specific items on the rock paintings representing animals, ships, linear designs - all have been discovered in this area.
Certainly, Andros is a place you must visit, not only for its scenery but for the history and culture of the place. It is therefore a cultural destination, mainly thanks to the many museums that are found here. Museum of Modern Art is known and recognized worldwide for value works and objects housed here and is managed by Vassilis and Eliza Goulandris Foundation husbands. You'll find unique collections of paintings and sculptures. Archaeological Museums of Hora and Paleopolis host objects dating from ancient times the island. Cycladic Museum of Olive is a good opportunity to get familiar with how they looked once small factories that produced olive oil. You can not say that you have visited the Greek Islands Andros if you have not seen.
