About Agrinio - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Historically known for its tobacco industry and olive production, the city combines ancient heritage (ancient Agrinion) with modern development, being strategically located near Lake Trichonida.
The settlement dates back to ancient times, with ancient Agrinion located 3 km northeast of the current city. Between the medieval period and 1836, it was known as Vrachori. Traditionally, the city was a major center of the tobacco industry, hosting famous companies such as Papastratos, Panagopoulos and Papapetrou. Today, it is also famous for its olive production.
The area is characterized by varied landscapes, being close to Lake Trichonida, the largest natural lake in Greece, offering fertile agricultural areas and natural landscapes.
Tourism and Attractions: Although not a purely tourist town, Agrinio serves as a base for exploring the Aetolia-Acarnania region, which includes the Ionian coast, archaeological sites and the historic city of Nafpaktos.
