Adele is on the road that leads to the Monastery of Arkadi, one of the most popular Crete tourist destinations. Arkadi Monastery is famed for the massacre that took place in 1866 at the hands of the Turks towards the Cretan people. Almost 2500 men, women and children – both Turks and Cretans – lost their lives in the Monastery of Arkadi Holocaust.
Today visitors flock to the museum which is housed within Arkadi monastery in which artefacts hailing from the 1866 Holocaust are displayed along with many beautiful religious icons.
