About Halki - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
The island of Halki, in Greece, is one of the Greek islands of the Aegean Sea and it belongs to the Dodecanese islands group. The only village of Halki island is Nimporio, the capital and main port of the island. It is located on the eastern side of Halki and charms visitors with the traditional architecture, the lovely waterfront and the paved paths. The island used to have another village, Chorio, but it was gradually abandoned in the 19th century and its inhabitants moved to Nimporio. Beaches are clean and beautiful. Most organized beaches of Halki island are located close to Nimporio and they can be easily accessed on foot or by bus. Generally be prepared for long walks during your Halki holidays, as walking and hiking are the main things to do there. Some other beaches, away from Nimporio, are totally secluded and unorganized. There visitors can enjoy all the privacy they need. Particularly interesting is also the Medieval Castle, in the centre of the island, but climbing up is quite tricky.
Accommodation is limited in Halki, as this is an island untouched by mass tourism. The only settlement on the island is Nimporio, where you can find few traditional studios with basic facilities and cozy rooms to stay during your Halki holidays. These venues have easy access to the port, restaurants and shops.
